‘Jacob is Good’

This project was a deep dive into how it feels growing up “different” as a young woman. It explores autism in children, particularly girls who have a much greater chance of being overlooked and undiagnosed. I took strong influence from my own childhood and referenced archival photographs that express my thoughts on the topic.

This work hopes to show how great positive education and acknowledgement for both girls and boys the same can be a step in the right direction.

Invisible Her

This project is a pair to the “Jacob is Good” series. It explores the same themes but now as a grown woman, how do we learn to cover up, push down our instincts to fit into the adult world. How navigatable is life when we were never allowed to be different?

This imagery is much more conceptual, with frames that depict how it feels to be in sensory overload. To be in awe of the natural world, but at the same time feel it to be too much. I use mixed media in this project to give the viewer that same tactileness.

Willows & Waterways

This project was a storytelling project that delved into the history and importance of the Bath and Somerset Canal, with inspiration taken from the childrens illustration of Wind in the Willows. I spent months talking to locals, walking the canals wind, rain or shine, and really focusing on the natural environment mixing with our modern world.

The frames are bright and vibrant, illustration-like and help the viewer step right in to the trancuility and beauty of this unique environment.
